Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th June 2022
Visit the South Devon Railway this Platinum Jubilee bank holiday for a whole host of entertainment as well as a memorable train ride along the stunning river Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes in the heart of glorious Devon.
To help celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we are holding a special garden party-themed beer festival at our Staverton station.
An intensive train service is operating to take you from Buckfastleigh (large free car park just off the A38) or Totnes Riverside (short walk to the main line railway station and bus stops) to Staverton station where the festivities are taking place. There is no public parking available at Staverton, so the best way to enjoy the beer festival is to arrive on one of our heritage trains!

What to see and do:
- Intensive train service with a variety of steam and diesel hauled services.
- Beer festival with over 40 real ales, 8 craft beers, cider, wine, spirits and Pimms.
- DJ playing a selection of tunes from across the decades.
- “Garden party” style set up within our large station yard with picnic tables, bunting and plenty of undercover seating in case the weather turns bad!
- A selection of Royalty themed events including a prize quiz and beacon lighting (see below for a full itinerary).
- A selection of food offerings including Pie and Mash, BBQ and cream teas.
Train services
Our Great Western carriages from the early 20th century (including visiting luxury GWR saloon No. 9044 from 1881) will be in operation each day with steam locomotive 5526 hauling them. Our British Railways Mark 1 carriages from the 1950s and 1960s will be hauled by a heritage diesel locomotive – Class 25 D7612 on Thursday and Friday, and Class 33 D6501 on Saturday and Sunday. A prototypical “Auto” train formed of single carriage 233 with steam locomotive 6430 will be providing additional shuttle services in the afternoon and evening (excluding Sunday).
Train services run from approximately 1000 until late each evening, providing an intensive service to get to and from the celebrations at Staverton.
