Our next Family Fun Weekend: 4th, 5th & 6th May 2024
Our best value family event ever returns for 2024. Following a very popular event in 2023, this year the South Devon Railway will be running 2 Family Fun Weekends, providing an excellent value, all inclusive day out!
- Frequent steam hauled heritage train services alongside the tranquil river Dart.
- Free entry to the Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies.
- Free entry to the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm.
- Miniature Railway rides (may be suspended in adverse weather conditions).
Train Timetable
An intensive train service operates during the event providing a frequent connection between Buckfastleigh and Totnes and the attractions at each end of the line. All services are scheduled to be hauled by a Great Western steam locomotive*.
*Services are subject to alteration or replacement with diesel locomotives in the rare event of unavoidable problems.

The above tickets will include free entry to Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies, Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and the Miniature Railway on the day of travel only.
Single, part journey, member and disabled/carer tickets are available on the day at the booking office but will not include entry to the other attractions.
Please note that whilst dogs are welcome across the railway, they are not permitted within the Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies centre, or the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm.

Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies
Free entry to the Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies at Buckfastleigh Station – see Otters from around the world, watch them swim in the underwater viewing area and walk through the greenhouses with a vast array of beautiful butterflies!
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm
Free entry to the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm at our Totnes Riverside station. A highly interactive experience for adults and children alike – cuddle guinea pigs, feed the goats and see a variety of rare breeds including their impressive selection of owls.
Miniature Railway
Free train rides on our miniature railway through our gardens at Buckfastleigh – great fun for all the family! (Please note that in adverse weather conditions the miniature railway may not operate).
Children's Entertainer
Roving children’s entertainer at Buckfastleigh to keep the kids amused.
Face Painting
Face painting at Buckfastleigh between 10am and 3.30pm.
