Accessibility at the South Devon Railway

At the South Devon Railway, we believe everyone deserves to enjoy the charm of our railway, and we warmly welcome all visitors, including those with disabilities.

Access

Buckfastleigh station is the perfect starting point for your adventure. We offer easy, flat access and ample parking conveniently located close to the platform. Please note that our Totnes Riverside station is accessible only via a footpath link, which is about 500 yards from the nearest parking at Totnes National Rail station.

Many of our Heritage Travel services include a specially converted carriage which is wheelchair accessible via a portable ramp from the platform. In the passenger saloon there is capacity for 4 wheelchairs and an additional 4 seated passengers. None of the seating on our Heritage Travel services is reserved, and spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To check that our accessible carriage is in service for the day of your visit, please contact us.

We regret that our Murder Mystery, Freight Train, Restaurant Car, Pullman Car and Drive a Train Experiences are not wheelchair accessible due to the heritage vehicles that are used.

*The maximum overall size of wheelchair we can carry is: length 1200mm (47″), width 700mm (27″), and weight 230kg (500 lbs). Unfortunately, for operational and safety reasons, larger scooters cannot be accommodated.

Fares

Registered disabled visitors and their carer(s) enjoy half price fares* on Heritage Travel services at the South Devon Railway.

*Half price adult and child fares are available for those who are disabled and their carer(s) when purchasing a full-line Return ticket only. This discount is not available on Ranger or Single tickets, or in conjunction with any other discount, experience or event. Tickets are not available online in advance and can only be purchased on the day of travel at a Booking Office.

We look forward to welcoming you to the South Devon Railway, where we’re dedicated to making your visit enjoyable and memorable!
