To raise the curtain on our new season, for every ticket you buy, you get another free (The lowest priced ticket will be the free one). Customers buying tickets on our website should buy one ticket and select the free option for their second one. A great family day out and a great price too!
April 6th – 14th 50th Anniversary Gala
It’s exactly 50 years since our line reopened to run steam trains and our gala is going to a big one with an array of visiting locomotives lined up, and a few surprises too. Keep an eye on the website for more details. This is an event not to be missed.
May 4th – 6th Day Out With Thomas
Everybody’s favourite little blue engine is coming to visit us again with lots of his friends too. The Fat Controller will be in charge all day to make sure Thomas behaves and to look after all our visitors. You can book in advance here.
May 24th – 27th Spring Beer Festival
Our bar at Staverton will be open with a fantastic range of real ales, ciders, craft beers and more. Meanwhile, there are trains all day, the Routemaster bus will be running up to Ashburton and much more.
June 14th – 16th Ticket to Ride
Our fab 1960s event features live sixties music, fashion, cars from the era as well as 1960s steam and diesel trains. Come and enjoy the festival atmosphere. We’d love to see you in sixties fashions.
July 6th – 7th South Devon 1940s Festival
Military vehicles, live 1940s music, vintage vehicles and steam trains. This event is a firm favourite and a day out to remember. Come in 1940s clothing and remember to bring your ration book.
July 19th – 21st Summer Diesel Gala
We have a fleet of first generation British Railways diesels from the sixties. This weekend is a chance for them to be put through their paces. The bar at Staverton will be open too.
August 23rd – 26th Rails & Ales
While trains run all day, the beer and cider festival will be in full swing at Staverton. A great bank holiday treat!
September 7th – 8th Heritage Open Days and Behind the Scenes
Heritage Open Days is a national event encompassing a huge range of heritage events and attractions. Here at the SDR, it’s an opportunity to learn about how we run the railway, see around our workshops and go behind the scenes all over the line.
September 28th – 29th Models & Miniatures
A fantastic event where we bring together fantastic scale models trains, boats, planes, cars and lots more. Model engineering at its finest and a fabulous day out for all ages.
October 19th – 21st Day Out With Thomas

December 12th -13th Carols Down The Line
Enjoy a festive train trip, full of joyous carols, with a complimentary tea or coffee and a mince pie before departure. The Exeter Railway Band will be leading the carol singing as usual.
December 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 18th to 24th Santa-by-Steam
Come and see Santa in his special, unique Grotto on the train, with singing, magic, festive cheer and a present for all the children. Pre-booking essential, please.
December 27th – January 1st Mince Pie Specials
Enjoy a mince pie as you watch the winter countryside of the Dart valley gently glide past your window from the warmth and comfort of one of our steam trains.
