The South Devon Railway carried 83,527 passengers during the 2019 Season a small, one percent, drop on the 2018 season.
The good news for us is that our revenue was up by £120K on 2018 and turnover was well over £1 million again, largely as a result of holding two Thomas events in the year, plus Sunday dining trains and successful Santa trains too.
For information; in 2018 we carried 84,771 passengers which was a reduction of 15% on the 2017 season where we carried 97,600 passengers.
Sadly, 2019 was not a champagne season for many in the South West tourism sector with similar trends to 2018 when many attractions were also up to 15% down on 2017. Market uncertainty and fears over Brexit are likely causes of people spending less.
