GWR Corridor Third No 536

536 is a typical GWR coach, being identical to hundreds of similar steel-panelled side-corridor ‘Toplight’ coaches built by the Great Western Railway over a period of many years.

This example was built at Swindon in 1940.

536 is owned and was originally preserved by the Great Western Society, who purchased it from BR in 1969, and ran as part of the GWS Vintage Train on the main line until 1980. 536 is on loan to the South Devon Railway until 2017, for regular use in our Great Western train. Since it arrived on the SDR, it has been fully overhauled.
