Half price weekend - 29th/30th October 2011
Cast off the recession and enjoy the South Devon Railway’s special
bargain ‘half fare’ event, which traditionally marks the end of the SDR’s main
season of running steam trains.
There will also be a Halloween flavour to the event with hidden pumpkins
around the railway with prizes for children who find them all, plus special
spooky menus and decorations in the line’s Refreshment Rooms at Buckfastleigh. Over the weekend, countryside lovers can enjoy some secret, stunning scenery from the comfort of steam trains as they meander leisurely down Devon’s glorious valley of the River Dart, and walkers can take advantage of some beautiful walks from stations too. And with all the ongoing financial gloom of the recession, the timing of the regular event is ideal for cash-conscious families as all fares will be at half-price. So, an adult and senior citizen's round trip will cost just £5.00, a child return (ages 5-14) will be £3.00; and under fives go free. There are some superb views of the River Dart at this time of year, and there really is no better way to see them than from one of our relaxing steam trains. Visitors can also explore Totnes or visit the nearby Rare Breeds Centre right next to our station, or drop into the Butterfly Farm & Otter Sanctuary at Buckfastleigh. The first train departs from Buckfastleigh at 10.00 and from Totnes Littlehempston at 10.45. Trains will leave each station at approximately 45 minite intervals. See the blue timetable on the timetable page.
