GWR 2-6-2T 55525552 is a visitor at the SDR's 40th anniversary celebrations from 5th - 13th April 2009. 5552 was built by the GWR and completed at Swindon Works in November 1928. She entered traffic at Tyseley shed and worked local services in the Birmingham area until 1931 when she was transferred to Bristol Bath Road. In 1937 she was moved south west to Newton Abbot, from where she was a regular locomotive on the South Brent to Kingsbridge branch. In 1955, 5552 was transferred to Plymouth Laira and then on to Truro where she was to stay until withdrawal in October 1960. Whilst at Truro, she worked the Falmouth, Newquay and Newham Quay branches working both goods and local passenger services. On withdrawal, 5552 went to Barry scrapyard in South Wales where she stayed for 25 years before being purchased by the Bodmin & Wenford Railway for restoration. She returned to steam in August 2003.
