BR 0-6-0DE D3666 (09 002)

The Class 09 diesel shunters were a higher geared version of the very numerous Class 08. Just 26 were built and were capable of 27mph as opposed to the 15mph of the Class 08.

D3666, which spent most of its life on British Railways Southern Region, was purchased for preservation by the South Devon Railway Trust in the 1990s. Unfortunately the mechanical condition of the shunter has prevented it from working in preservation to date as it requires extensive bottom end repairs and overhaul including traction motor gears before it can move and operate under its own power.
